Elderton Lodge was built in the latter half of the 18th century, using local estate brick faced with cobbles from the North Norfolk coast, just 4 miles away.
Originally a shooting lodge for Gunton Hall, ancestral home of the Barons of Suffield, it has accommodated nobility and royalty among its guests. King Edward VII was a frequent visitor to Gunton - indeed, the restored tower on the estate was built as a look-out for the arrival of the royal train at Gunton Station - and in earlier days, as the Prince of Wales, he is supposed to have enjoyed secret assignations with Lillie Langtry, the celebrated "Jersey Lily", at the Lodge.
These days, Elderton Lodge has been tastefully restored in a way which reflects its Victorian and Edwardian heritage. It still offers the same excellent service and standards of comfort which the king himself would have appreciated, but now with the addition of every modern facility for today's guests.
